The Brentwood Town Cemetery Trustees on Sept. 11 approved the cemetery’s 2026 fiscal budget, accepted final wording for a Poor Farm cemetery marker and approved their Aug. 7 minutes with a typographical correction.
Trustees voted to submit the budget as presented with one change: increasing the land-maintenance line from $1,500 to $2,000 and leaving the electricity line at $350. The trustees discussed supply and delivery components of the monthly electric bill and concluded the small recent increases did not justify a larger adjustment. Trustee Julian made the motion to approve the budget as updated; Trustee Skip seconded it and the motion carried.
The trustees also voted to accept the final proof for the Poor Farm marker after a small grammatical correction to the proposed inscription. The final language will read, “Here lie the remains known only to God …” with the board removing a misplaced plural “s” when the inscription used “lies.” Superintendent Joyce moved to accept the final version with that correction; Skip seconded and the motion passed.
Separately, the board accepted the Aug. 7 meeting minutes with one correction: change "general fun transfer" to "general fund transfer." Jillian moved to accept the minutes as corrected; Skip seconded and the motion passed.

The superintendent said she will finalize the budget document, correct year labels that had been misprinted as 2024/2025, circulate the updated budget to trustees and submit it to Julie (town finance staff). Joyce also confirmed she would email the marker vendor immediately so production can proceed before winter. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.
