Committee members tentatively set a schedule of fall meetings to review department budgets and to align committee work with the board of selectmen’s budget timeline.
The committee proposed and tentatively agreed to meet on Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, all at 6 p.m., subject to adjustments depending on when department budgets are finalized and what materials the committee receives. Staff said meeting before selectmen review would leave the committee without department budgets; the finance staff recommended meeting after selectmen see budgets so members would have materials.
Why it matters: scheduling meetings after selectmen review of budgets gives the committee actual department proposals to examine. Committee members asked staff to publish a municipal calendar of statutory dates and to avoid scheduling during the week before Thanksgiving.
The dates are tentative and the finance staff said they will adjust the calendar depending on how many department budgets are available; the committee agreed to revisit the schedule at the next meeting.
