Cutler Bay council approves ordinance easing golf-cart parking requirements

The Town of Cutler Bay Council voted unanimously Sept. 17 to approve an ordinance amending parking specifications and minimum parking ratios in the town code to incorporate standards for golf-cart parking.
The ordinance — introduced as Item 10a on the agenda — changes sections 3-142 and 3-144 of chapter 3 of the town code to recognize golf carts in parking calculations, a change council members said aligns Cutler Bay with other Florida cities.
Mayor Tim Mirabond said the town is “a golf cart friendly community” and cited other Florida municipalities that have revised parking requirements. The public hearing on the ordinance drew no speakers, and no written public comments were filed with the town clerk, the council noted.
Councilmember Ramirez moved approval; Councilmember Lord seconded. The clerk conducted a roll-call vote: Lord — yes; Duncan — yes; Ramirez — yes; Vice Mayor Callaghan — yes; Mayor Mirabond — yes. The motion passed 5-0.
Ralph (Town staff) noted the ordinance had been advertised in the Miami Herald on Sept. 7 for the required public notice. The ordinance provides for severability, conflict resolution, codification and an effective date in the text presented to the council.
The council did not discuss implementation details such as effective dates for development review or how the change will be reflected in pending building permits during the meeting. Staff did not present any budgetary impact estimate during the item.
