The Harlingen City Commission approved a request from the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) to provide $76,500 to Texas Southmost College (TSC) to fund a patient care technician (PCT) training program for Harlingen residents.
Orlando Campos, CEO of the HEDC, told commissioners the funding will support 34 Harlingen residents with 352 hours of hands-on training in healthcare occupations. Staff said the program includes four certifications—CPR, CNA, EKG and Patient Care Technician (PCT)—and that TSC had coordinated with Workforce Solutions and local hospitals to secure matching funds and job-placement partnerships. City staff emphasized that the program is intended to place participants in local hospitals, clinics and rehab centers.
Commissioners asked for follow-up reporting; TSC representatives confirmed placement and outcome reporting will be provided to the city and HEDC. The commission voted unanimously to approve the funding.
