The Harlingen City Commission approved renewal of lease document number 6246787RP00006 for 15 acres at 1300 Fair Park Boulevard, a parcel currently used by the Department of the Army. The lease term approved covers Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2026.
During discussion, commissioners raised concerns about overgrown grass and which city employee should be the point of contact for the site. Commissioners directed staff to substitute the prior contact (Danny) with the current public-works contact (Chris) or the appropriate assistant city manager and to add a contract provision requiring the tenant to maintain the grass and interior facilities. Staff proposed language allowing the city to perform maintenance and charge the tenant if the tenant does not maintain the property; the commission approved the renewal subject to those contract changes.
The motion passed unanimously. Staff will finalize lease language with city legal counsel and then execute the renewal incorporating the agreed maintenance and contact clauses.
