The administrator added that county staff will also apply for design funding as a backup in case LCO’s application does not cover the full design cost. She said the project could be administered as an LCO project but that the county likely would oversee aspects of the work.
Committee members discussed highway shop staffing and facilities planning. Members noted that the highway patrol superintendent resigned, the county filled the patrol superintendent position through an internal hire and the county intends to use an on‑call sign‑up roster to reduce weekend overload. The committee discussed long‑range options including consolidating some highway shops, a potential new highway facility in Radisson (proposed as a county center location) and whether EMS could be co‑located with highway functions to improve response times.
Members asked staff to develop facts and cost estimates to support future consolidation decisions, noting the county must weigh storage, fuel distribution and operational responsibilities. No formal motion or vote was recorded on the roundabout or facility consolidation at the committee meeting.
