JusticePoint reports steady pretrial/diversion caseloads and outreach events; TAD grant deadline Oct. 2

At the Sept. 10 Sawyer County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council meeting, JusticePoint staff said pretrial and diversion programs are staffed and active, listed recent outreach events and noted the Treatment Alternatives and Diversion (TAD) grant application is due Oct. 2
Mike Markren, presenting the JusticePoint report to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council on Sept. 10, said recent staffing changes have filled open positions and provided program continuity. He said Danielle Church was hired as a pretrial and diversion case manager, and Rebecca Moser is performing duties as both the grama coordinator and recovery court case manager.
Program caseloads and outreach
Markren reported pretrial had 17 new referrals and 116 active cases, with 4 successful and 2 unsuccessful closures during the reporting period. Diversion received 6 new referrals and had 16 active cases with 1 unsuccessful outcome; treatment court had seven active participants and no new referrals during the period he reported.
Outreach and events included a countywide scavenger hunt with four participants, 200-plus contacts at National Night Out, a barn dance with 23 contacts, and 24 connections at Troutfest. Markren said outreach partners are also offering fitness and recreation incentives, including donated Snap Fitness passes and pickleball activities.
Grants and programs
Markren told the council that the TAD (Treatment Alternatives and Diversion) grant application process changed this year and eliminated a usual pre-application stage; the full application is due Oct. 2. He also said a federal grant labeled "Reaching Rural" will have on-site reviewers the week of Oct. 8 and requested the council put that item on next month’s agenda.
Jail programs
Markren listed educational and treatment programs operating in the jail, including a Sawyer County literacy program with Holly Moses and Jeff Laney, a GED program with Ariela Corel, a Native American culture and language program, Pathways Home through Matthew Filipec, parenting classes and multiple faith- and recovery-based groups. He said on-the-job training is provided through Northwest SEP.
