The Marathon County Human Resources, Finance and Property Committee on Tuesday approved forwarding a resolution to the full County Board that would designate highway reserve funds for a new highway facility and separately approved a resolution authorizing expenditure of reserve funds for Phase 1 design services.
Chair Gerry Gibbs moved to send the reserve‑allocation measure to the full board; Supervisor Hart seconded. The committee voted unanimously in favor. Later the committee approved the specific resolution authorizing expenditure of highway reserve funds for Phase 1 design services; Supervisor Hart moved that resolution and Supervisor Lemmer seconded. Both motions carried unanimously.
County staff joined committee members during the discussion to answer technical questions, and no amendments were offered in committee. The resolutions change the county’s internal designation and permit use of highway reserves for design work on a planned replacement highway facility; staff indicated design work is Phase 1 and additional funding and approvals will be required for later construction phases.
Committee members expressed support for advancing the measures to the full board for final action. Ending
Next steps: the resolutions will be considered by the full County Board; if approved, staff will proceed with Phase 1 design procurement and proceed with project planning according to county procurement rules.
