Infrastructure committee forwards Culverton bridge aid resolution to county board

The Marathon County Infrastructure Committee on Sept. 8 voted 5-0 to recommend a resolution concerning Culverton bridge aid be forwarded to the county board.
Committee members heard from the county highway commissioner, who said the committee packet included a resolution and that “this year's projects totaled about $341,000,” a figure the commissioner described as “considerably less than last year.” The commissioner attributed the decline to postponed township projects and a year in which many bridge projects received full federal funding, reducing local-bridge-aid reimbursements.
The highway commissioner said bridge projects are typically funded about 80% by federal dollars and 20% locally, with individual bridge project costs ranging from roughly $350,000 to nearly $1 million. Because many projects in the current cycle received full federal funding, local reimbursement requests through Bridge Aid were minimal; the commissioner said most local-Share reimbursements were “0 in most of them,” with one locality reporting about $1,400 and several reporting small overages they had to absorb.
Vice Chair Dickinson moved to recommend approval of the resolution; Soybert seconded. The committee recorded a 5-0 recommendation to forward the resolution to the county board later that evening.
The committee did not take further action on the resolution; forwarding it to the county board means the final decision rests with the full board.
