Manitowoc County board appoints Melissa McCauley as county treasurer

The Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors voted to appoint Melissa McCauley to fill the unexpired term of the county treasurer.

Chairman Tyler Martell and other supervisors approved the resolution to appoint McCauley after the board’s introduction of the candidate. The clerk conducted the vote and the appointment was approved.

McCauley, who served as deputy treasurer for four years and has 29 years of service in county government, said she has been working in the treasurer’s office part time during the transition and that a newly hired deputy, Elizabeth Cole, began last week. “I come to you with 29 years, and I'm proud to say 29 years of serving with county government,” McCauley said.

She thanked interim staff who kept the office operating during the transition and encouraged supervisors and residents to stop in and meet the new deputy. McCauley said she had been splitting time between human services duties and assisting in the treasurer’s office in recent weeks to maintain operations alongside staff who had been covering the office.

The appointment was presented by a supervisor who noted there had been significant interest in the position and that McCauley’s prior service and experience made her ready to step in “on day one.” The transcript records no roll-call tallies; the clerk confirmed the resolution’s approval on the floor.

The board also acknowledged personnel who assisted in the transition, including the former treasurer and courthouse staff who helped keep the office functioning while the vacancy was being filled.
