The Marathon County Executive Committee reviewed the process for setting county supervisor salaries for the 2026–28 term and debated whether to continue a stipend that reimburses supervisors’ home internet service. County staff said the stipend originates from Resolution R17‑14 (2014) and is budgeted at about $14,000 annually although actual uptake varies.
County Administrator Leonard told the committee he is building the 2026 budget and said the stipend is an item he would cut if departments were treated the same way: “If this were a department I would cut it,” he said. Vice Chair Dickinson and others raised concerns about eliminating the stipend without a concrete plan to offset lost compensation, since some supervisors rely on internet/hotspot access to perform board duties.
Supervisor Robinson proposed rescinding Resolution R17‑14 and later withdrew the motion, saying he would prefer HR Finance to consider the stipend alongside the salary-setting process and potential offsets. The committee agreed to forward the salary‑setting question and any recommended changes to the full county board in November after HR Finance develops a recommendation.
Separately, the committee approved the minutes of the July 10 and August 26 meetings. The minutes were amended at the request of Supervisor Maske to show her as “excused” (rather than “absent”) for a listed meeting. The committee adopted the corrected minutes by voice vote.
No final county‑board salary change or formal repeal of Resolution R17‑14 occurred at the meeting; the matter will return to HR Finance for recommendation before the full county board acts.
