The Livingston County Board of Supervisors opened a public hearing on a local law to continue the county's additional mortgage recording tax, county staff said.
"This particular local law involves mortgage tax. When a mortgage is filed with the county clerk, a 1 and quarter percent mortgage tax is collected. The additional quarter percent in tax is revenue that remains local here with the county, and is something authorized under existing local law, which that law is set to expire December 1," county staff member Shannon told the board during the hearing.
The board invited public comment and kept the hearing open for additional speakers later in the meeting; no members of the public spoke at the podium during the time the hearing was open. Supervisors were asked to return with any comments before the meeting adjourned.
Separately, the board acknowledged receipt of a letter from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance confirming extension of the county's additional 1% sales and compensating use tax rate for the period Dec. 1, 2025, to Nov. 30, 2027, the clerk reported.
The hearing will remain open until the conclusion of the board meeting and any subsequent meeting actions related to the proposed local law were not decided during the portion of the meeting covered in the transcript.
