Greene County tourism staff told legislators they will advertise bids for the county's 2026 travel guide and seek to use a small donor fund to buy benches for the county tourism center.
The tourism presentation noted a donation of “just over $1,830” from a former Greene County Resort Association that was liquidated years ago. The donation, the presenter said, was left to the county for “public amenities at the tourism center,” and the resolution discussed would authorize the director of tourism to use the funds toward benches up to that allocated amount. “The resolution simply just authorizes the director of tourism to submit a bridal recognition for those benches up to that allocated amount,” the presenter said.
County staff also announced a change to the production of the county podcast Best Kept Secrets of Greene County. Staff said the county has formed a partnership with Catskill (Haskell) High School’s developing podcast program so students can handle technical work and recordings. “We’re going to be starting tomorrow doing all future podcast episodes on-site, at Haskell High School,” the presenter said, adding the county plans to add video components and improve sound quality.
Legislators asked whether printed travel guides remain useful as the county upgrades its website. One lawmaker said the guides remain popular with visitors: several members reported that the booklets are taken by guests and frequently run out before the next cycle.
No action on the guide bids or the donation was recorded in the tourism presentation itself; the meeting later moved to a block of routine proposed action items that included multiple motions and votes (see “Votes at a glance” article for recorded approvals).
