County aging services distribute farmers‑market coupons; Youth Bureau reports increased grant applications and student government day plans

The senior fair is scheduled for 11 a.m. presentations on the stage in the food court and will feature 64 vendors focused on services for older adults and caregivers. The New York State Office for the Aging director is scheduled as a guest speaker.
Youth Bureau: the Youth Bureau reported an increase in state funding from OCFS for youth programming. Applications to county youth grants closed Sept. 5; staff said they received 27 applications—far more than typical—and the youth advisory board will review applications with anticipated awards to support more programs, including rural providers. Staff said the OCFS allocation of $155,000 (discussed in the meeting) covers youth development, team sports and education and that 15% is allowable for administrative fees. Student Government Day is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28; staff expect participation from most of the county’s seven school districts and estimated last year’s attendance at about 90 students.
Why it matters: the farmers‑market coupons and senior fair are direct services and outreach to older residents; the expanded youth‑grant interest and additional OCFS funding will allow the county to support more year‑round youth programs.
