The Chautauqua County Public Facilities Committee on Sept. 15 authorized a 10-year lease with the Federal Aviation Administration for a small amount of office space and communications equipment at the Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport.
"This is a lease at the Jamestown Airport for office space, a tenant in office space including antenna and communications equipment," John Mackimer, airport manager, told the committee. The lease term is 10 years at $5,000 per year, Mackimer said; committee members noted the rate matches the existing lease.
A committee member questioned whether a decade-long lease without increases was appropriate. Mackimer said the FAA is a long-term partner and that the agency provides substantial federal funding to the airport; he prefaced that remark by saying he did not have specific facts at hand. "I don't have specific facts to support this, but, you know, we're in partnership with the FAA for the airport. The FAA funds 95% of the airport," he said in the meeting.
Committee members asked for clarification about why the FAA maintains space at airports; Mackimer described the need for navigation and communications equipment that may serve the airport and surrounding airspace.
The committee voted "aye" and carried the resolution. The public transcript does not include a roll-call tally or named mover.
