The L'Anse Creuse Public Schools Board of Education voted Tuesday to enter a closed session to consider student reinstatements and, after returning to open session, approved the reinstatement of three students.
Superintendent Howell announced earlier in the meeting that the district had been awarded $850,000 through the Michigan Section 35 MS grant to support a science and reading program called CKLA; the board later voted to approve elementary pilot materials funded by that grant.
Board members moved and seconded the motions as follows: a motion to enter closed session to address student reinstatements carried on a roll call vote (Cypress, DeVilla, Doss, Herndon, Lipsky and Sellers all voting yes). After the closed session the board approved the reinstatement motions by voice vote: student 0348 (motion by Mister Cypress, support by Mister Doss), student 0422 (motion by Mister Cypress, support by Mister Sellers), and student 0423 (motion by Mister Doss, support by Mister Cypress); each motion "carried" as announced by the chair. The board also approved the 35M-funded elementary pilot materials on a voice vote (motion by Mister Doss, support by Missus Herndon).
Other procedural votes included motions to make the meeting a voting meeting and to reorder the agenda to add the closed session before the public comment period; both motions were approved by voice vote.
