Neighbors ask county to update John Ball Park operating agreement after zoo master plan changes

Garcia asked the board to endorse an update to the 2013 operating agreement between the zoo and county, citing section 2.206 of the current agreement that the zoo should operate the public park so as not to "create or cause complaints from neighboring property owners or occupants" and to maintain standards of public access comparable to county parks. She requested a community benefits agreement that would clarify timelines, approvals and proactive communication so that green space, tree groves, pond and trails in John Ball Park are preserved.
Administrator Vandenberg and staff are listed on the zoo advisory committee and have been participating in meetings; Garcia thanked staff for their engagement and requested continued county support for preserving free public access to park amenities.
