Staff updates commissioners on planned industrial zoning code changes; second hearing set with limited modifications

Churchill County planning staff provided a status update on proposed changes to the county’s industrial zoning code and an updated zoning map at the Sept. 25 meeting, noting the Board of County Commissioners scheduled the second hearing for the amendments the following week.
Randy Hines said staff presented the draft code changes to the Board of County Commissioners for first reading and that the board elected to keep major solar-power generation projects in I-2 and I-3 industrial zones governed by a special use permit rather than making them a conditional zoning permit, contrary to a proposal raised during commission workshops. Staff also revised the proposed zoning map to reflect workshop and commission feedback, including designating the parcels near Ken and Mel as I-3.
Hines said the changes and map would be presented again at the board’s second hearing and invited commissioners to attend if they wished; he noted the board members had participated in prior workshops and were familiar with the proposals. No public comment was made at the commission meeting on this agenda item.
The board’s second hearing will be the next formal step toward adopting the code changes and the new industrial zoning map.
