Council waives hearing and approves Bridal Scrambler off-road event with strict conditions

The Glocester Town Council on Sept. 4 waived a public hearing and approved a special-event license for the annual Bridal Scrambler off-road motorcycle event proposed for October 2025 at 27 Barnes Way (applicant Ken Law).

When the town clerk reported no complaints after last year's event, a councilor moved to waive the hearing under Glocester Code of Ordinances Chapter 135, 4(b), and the motion passed. A subsequent motion to approve the special-event license (hours 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday) passed with several conditions. The conditions included: no alcoholic beverages on the premises; no overnight camping except primitive camping for race participants; any on-site vendors selling nonprepackaged food must obtain town licenses; Rhode Island-approved ambulance or rescue vehicle plus two emergency medical technicians must be on site at the applicant's expense; adequate parking areas to avoid roadside parking; police patrol officers may be assigned at the applicant's expense if the police chief deems it necessary; and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 naming the Town of Glocester and its functionaries as insured. The town solicitor may require a larger liability amount if recommended by the town's interlocal trust.

Councilors also required releases and waivers indemnifying the town and compliance with applicable AMANEDRA and insurance-carrier requirements. The council approved the motion by voice vote.

Next steps: applicant to provide required insurance certificates, obtain any necessary vendor licenses, and comply with on-site EMS and parking conditions prior to the event.
