Applicant lets kennel special use permit lapse near proposed battery facility; commission removes annual review requirement

Brandon Brim told the Churchill County Planning Commission on Sept. 25 he will allow Special Use Permit SUP-1101, for an animal boarding/kennel at 14066 Carson Highway, to lapse rather than implement it now because of uncertainty about a proposed adjacent battery storage facility.
Dean Patterson, planning staff, said it was the first annual review for SUP-1101 and that on a site visit he saw no work had occurred. Patterson reported he offered the applicant a one-year extension; Brim declined and indicated he preferred to let the permit expire and revisit the proposal later if conditions change.
Brim told the commission the proposed storage facility next door raised concerns about potential hazards and impacts to customers, including possible air and fire hazards, and said he would reapply later if the development outcome was acceptable.
Commissioner Vikan Sodegui moved to discontinue the annual review requirement; the motion passed unanimously. Staff said the permit, not having been implemented, will expire on its own terms within one year and that staff would record termination paperwork.
