Glocester approves accepting $145,196 in Rhode Island DOT municipal road funds with required local match

The Glocester Town Council on Sept. 4 authorized the town council president, the finance director and the town solicitor to sign the Rhode Island DOT Municipal Road and Bridge Program agreement enabling the town to be eligible for $145,196 in state funds for FY 2026. The grant requires a local match of $290,392, including allowable in-kind personnel costs, for a total roadway-investment estimate of $435,588.
Town Planner Karen Scott and DPW Director Gary Tremmel described recent and prospective projects funded by prior rounds and the potential roads for FY 2026 funding, including Joe Saul Road, Dexter Sanders Road and Wilmarth Road. The council noted construction projects funded under the program must be completed by Oct. 31, 2028.
The council voted to authorize officials to sign the agreement so Glocester can use the state funds on identified road-construction projects.
Next steps: finalize selected road projects, execute the DOT agreement and schedule construction to meet the Oct. 31, 2028 completion requirement.
