Planning commission ends special review requirement for Churchill Vineyards expansion

The Churchill County Planning Commission on Sept. 25 removed the tri-annual review requirement tied to Special Use Permit SUP-1043 for Churchill Vineyards (doing business as Frey Ranch Distillery) at 1045 Dodge Lane after staff reported the project’s conditions had been met.
Dean Patterson of Churchill County Public Works and Planning told the commission he inspected the site with the applicant, Colby Frey, and found the expansion work—including an additional barrel house, grading adjustments and production-area changes—completed. Patterson said the main outstanding concern at the time of the original permit was grading to ensure runoff from an older barrel house would not drain toward the newer barrel houses, which posed a potential fire-hazard path; staff reported that grading work had been corrected.
Applicant Colby Frey confirmed the work and told the commission he had coordinated with the county and the fire marshal on resolving the drainage concern. Commissioner Joe Frey recused himself from the discussion; after the remaining members voted, the motion to remove the tri-annual review passed 4–0.
The planning commission’s action ends scheduled periodic staff reviews for SUP-1043; the permit remains in effect subject to any other code requirements.
