Shelton commission approves six sign applications and accepts new PDD for public hearing

Shelton — The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously on several routine applications and added one new PDD to the docket at its Sept. 10 meeting.

The commission approved four sign applications by 6-0 votes: sign 25-40 (Angela Maione, 713–719 Bridgeport Ave.), sign 25-43 (MJ’s Ammo Saloon, 514 Bridgeport Ave.), sign 25-44 (Miles Energy, 99 Bridgeport Ave.), and sign 25-46 (Crave House, 99 Bridgeport Ave.). Each approval followed a zoning subcommittee review and standard staff checks.

Crave House signage drew discussion about a small secondary line under the main sign that read “breakfast and lunch.” Crave House co-owner Vincent Perez said the business is currently open about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is still testing demand for evening hours. The commission, in consultation with the sign contractor Brilliant Sign Solutions, asked the applicant to submit an updated rendering for the sign’s second line and agreed to a lighting-hours condition: illumination limited to business hours with a specific time window set at 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The record shows Brilliant Sign Solutions can make the lower panel vinyl and removable and can wire separate switches or timers for the primary and secondary sign elements.

Separately, the commission accepted a newly added application, 25-19 (PDD No. 66), submitted by Dominic Thomas for Recar LLC and Myanna’s Holdings LLC for modifications to final site development plans and an amendment to statement of uses and standards for a project labeled Great River Water Club; the commission voted 6-0 to set the petition for review and a public hearing.

Votes recorded in the meeting minutes for routine sign approvals were unanimous (6-0) where shown. The motions to approve individual signs were made and seconded by sitting commissioners as follows in the public record: sign 25-40 (motion by Commissioner Kelly; second by Commissioner Motto), sign 25-43 (motion by Commissioner Perkins; second by Commissioner Kelly), sign 25-44 (motion by Commissioner Parkins; second by Commissioner Kelly), and sign 25-46 (motion by Commissioner Kelly; second by Commissioner Motto). For application 25-19, the record shows a motion to accept and set a public hearing with Commissioner Kelly recorded as the seconder; the vote was 6-0.

Applicants and contractors who appeared at the meeting included Vincent Perez (Crave House, owner/operator) and Manar Baker of Brilliant Sign Solutions (sign contractor). The commission asked applicants to submit updated renderings and clarified that added text such as phone numbers or advertising language is not allowed on the sign faces; staff will handle final review of updated renderings and lighting controls.

The sign approvals and the new PDD acceptance were procedural actions on submissions; additional permits or hearings for larger site and development approvals will follow separate staff and, where required, public-notice processes.
