Shelton planning commission approves Miles Energy sign package at 99 Bridgeport Ave.

The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 17 approved a sign permit for Miles Energy at 99 Bridgeport Avenue, authorizing a new plaza identification sign and vinyl wraps on fuel dispensers, with final staff and zoning subcommittee review.

The commission’s zoning subcommittee recommended approval after reviewing revised sign layouts that had been missing at an earlier meeting. Manar Baker, representing Braillant Sign Solutions, described the work as replacement signage for the site and said the contractor would apply vinyl wraps to the dispensers and update the main plaza ID panel with the Miles logo.

Commissioners discussed placement and legibility. Commissioners noted the company’s motto would appear low on the pump faces and that the font choice — identified in the submission as Bank Gothic — could be difficult to read; Baker agreed the pump-level placement reduced visibility and said the team could remove wording if requested. Commissioners also noted that an existing tenant panel listing a former business would require a separate permit if the current tenant, Crave House, wants its name added.

Commissioner Kelly moved to approve sign application 25-44 for Miles Energy as submitted, with staff review and subcommittee review for the tower; Commissioner Christiano seconded. The motion passed by roll call vote, 6–0.

The commission’s action allows staff and the zoning subcommittee to complete final checks on dimensions, wording and tenant-panel changes before a permit is issued. The commission did not alter submitted dimensions or colors at the meeting.
