Business administrator: audit, capital plan, Taylor Canyon timeline and Gramercy asbestos/demolition estimate

The Ogden City School District business administrator gave an operational update covering the district's financial audit, an updated capital improvements plan, negotiations over the Taylor Canyon property and an estimate for asbestos abatement and demolition of the Gramercy school building.
The administrator said auditors are "in full swing" and the district expects to deliver its financial report by Oct. 1; auditors have until November to complete their report. The district has begun drafting a narrative for its capital improvements plan to outline anticipated projects over the next five years and has formed a working group that includes the superintendent, the business administrator, Ken Crawford, Jared Cherry and Mark Blanchard to review project timelines.
On the Taylor Canyon property, the business administrator said the district has told the city it is "not in any big rush" to proceed with a sale; the 90-day window on the city's decision is not up until around Dec. 1 and the district will allow additional time if the city needs it.
Regarding Gramercy Elementary, the administrator said the consent calendar included an asbestos abatement contract and that abatement plus demolition of the old building will be expensive. He estimated the combined cost of abatement and demolition "around $600,000, probably." He said the district would share a demolition bid proposal after abatement is complete.
Board members thanked the administrator for allowing the city time on the Taylor Canyon decision. No formal board action was taken on these informational items at the meeting.
