Under the proposal presented by city staff and Matt Perry of National Sports Services, the league intends to play approximately 60 games, about 30 of which would be in Grand Island, with a target start in May 2026 and a season concluding by July. National Sports Services pledged to invest $250,000 toward Ryder Park renovations as part of its lease agreement.
Matt Perry described the business model: team ownership initially controlled by the operator to standardize operations, ticket sales, concessions and sponsorships are the primary revenue sources, and players will be summer collegiate athletes who live in host homes. Perry said the company will hire full‑time, year‑round staff locally and coordinate community outreach including school programs and fundraisers.
Council members questioned how the arrangement would affect existing users. Todd (city staff) said the city will continue to control field scheduling and will remain responsible for maintenance and repairs; the Legion and high school programs were described as existing users the operator met with during development. Perry said his group expects to offer a revenue guarantee to the Legion to avoid financial harm to that volunteer group and proposed sharing net income beyond historical guarantees.
Council member Sheard moved approval of the RFP award (2025‑307); Council member Brown seconded and the motion passed.
