Portland Housing Bureau Director Helmi Hissrich told the Sept. 11 North Northeast oversight committee that the bureau's first partnership with Albina Vision Trust has opened, and that the bureau closed a loan to acquire an adjacent building, the Paramount, strengthening a cluster of affordable units in Lower Albina.
Hissrich said the Albina Vision Trust's new property opened to families and that the bureau supported the purchase of the Paramount apartment building next door. She described the projects as an effort to "reroute families in Lower Albina" and to support both affordable housing and local economic opportunity.
Hissrich also announced a staff change: John Trent (also presented later in the meeting) is now leading the mayor's housing strike team while continuing to manage homeownership and home-repair programs within PHB. That strike team meets weekly with the mayor and multiple jurisdictional partners to prioritize exits from shelter into permanent housing and to coordinate stabilization work for people experiencing homelessness.
Finally, Hissrich promoted the bureau's inaugural Portland Rental Education Week, hosted by the bureau's renter services office. Rental Education Week is scheduled for Oct. 6 'Oct. 9 with noon webinars on topics such as conflict management, fair housing, disability rights and property maintenance; registration closes Sept. 30.
Hissrich asked committee members to help spread the word about the virtual sessions and noted printed flyers were available at the meeting.
