A Hopkinton police official told the Hopkinton Town Council on Sept. 15 that the town’s first community car show raised $5,282 for the Matty Potts Foundation and helped strengthen relationships between officers and residents.
The official, speaking at the start of the council meeting, said the car show created “a welcoming, family friendly environment” where officers could meet residents outside of emergencies and enforcement. The official said the event built trust and gave officers a chance to interact as neighbors.
Joe Morrow of Old Depot Road thanked police leaders and staff at the meeting, calling the car show a “great day” and noting the strong turnout of residents and motorcycles.
The official said funds were raised through donations and event participation and presented a ceremonial check for the foundation at the meeting. The official said the department hopes to make the car show an annual tradition.
No changes to department policy or budgets were proposed during the presentation, and no vote was taken.
The council received the report during its general business portion of the meeting; no formal action was required.
