The Chandler Planning and Zoning Commission approved its consent agenda on Sept. 17, adding an extra stipulation to a planned development (PDP) that sets timelines for vacating and potentially demolishing the Morrison Building at 1875 West Fry Road.
City staff read the added language into the record: “Item number 3, PDP stipulation number 8. The Morrison Building located at 1875 West Fry Road shall be vacated within 18 months of the date of certificate of occupancy for the new medical office building. The Morrison Building shall be demolished within 24 months of certificate of occupancy unless a new parking solution is developed and submitted to the city for approval to accommodate the required parking for the Morrison Building.”
A commissioner moved to approve the consent agenda with the additional stipulation and another commissioner seconded the motion. One commissioner said, “For the record, I'll be abstaining on the meeting minutes because I wasn't here at the last meeting,” and the motion carried after the commission voted in favor. The transcript does not record roll-call vote tallies or the names of the mover and seconder.
Vice Chair Kochel was present for the meeting and Commissioner Gala was recorded as excused. The commission also completed a roll call before taking action and concluded the business item without additional public comment on the stipulation.
The commission noted the added stipulation in the PDP for the Morrison Building as part of the consent agenda; the stipulation ties vacatur and demolition deadlines to the date of the certificate of occupancy for a new medical office building and allows an alternative parking plan to avoid demolition.
The commission adjourned and scheduled its next regular meeting for Oct. 15 in the same council chambers.
