Council President Marquise Harris Dawson joined the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles and Link Housing to cut the ribbon Thursday at Atlas Apartments, a new 127‑unit affordable supportive housing community in South Los Angeles.
The Housing Authority said 110 housing choice vouchers have been committed to the site to serve people with extremely low incomes who are exiting homelessness. Officials described the project as part of a larger pipeline: the city expects about 38 projects and roughly 2,000 units to come online in 2025.
"We're so excited to be at the grand opening of a brand new affordable supportive housing community here in the heart of South LA," Council President Marquise Harris Dawson said. "A 127 units that will welcome individuals that are exiting homelessness, thanks to a partnership between Link Housing, the City Of LA, the housing authority, and the county."
A person who said they had been homeless for many years expressed gratitude at the ceremony, saying the new housing offered relief and the chance to rebuild after extended homelessness.
Housing authority materials at the event outlined the voucher commitment and framed Atlas Apartments as one part of the city—s strategy to reduce homelessness through new construction and partnerships with nonprofit developers and county services.
Officials said the project also includes neighborhood improvements such as traffic and safety work and efforts to attract services like grocery stores. Beyond the opening ceremony, details on the project's operating partner, funding sources and long‑term supportive services were not specified at the event.
City officials and the housing authority said the planned 2025 pipeline of projects is intended to expand available units but did not present a project‑level schedule beyond the Atlas opening.
