San Mateo outlines roof replacements, pool repairs and King Center resiliency plan

At the Sept. 3 meeting of the San Mateo City Park and Recreation Commission, Public Works presented a capital improvement projects update outlining near-term maintenance and longer-term resiliency plans for recreational facilities across the city.
Public Works facilities and fleet services manager Steve said the Central Recreation Center roof “could no longer be maintained and had to be replaced,” and that the reroofing contract was awarded in August with work expected to start within weeks and conclude in October. The project will be managed to keep the facility open during construction.
Steve described several other maintenance and resiliency projects planned or underway: an emergency field lighting upgrade at King Park to provide illumination during power outages; a backup generator hookup and concrete pad at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center electrical room to accept temporary generator hookups; and a prefabricated replacement for the…
