Community Board 11 Parks Committee hears Morris Park art update, reelects Janice Walcott as chair

The Morris Park Business Improvement District representative, Camilla, told the committee that local artist Ruth Marshall will install large round crochet pieces at Matthew Moliner Playground and hold community workshops at the Morris Park Library. "We will start installing it on Friday," Camilla said, and she said workshops would take place each Saturday for the next four Saturdays to create additional pieces. Camilla said the installation is expected to be completed "within the next three months" and that the parks department approved keeping the work in place through June (date not specified in the meeting).
The committee discussed broader parks projects. A member reported that Bronx Park and Botanical Gardens access work is proceeding and said the Pelham Parkway project is in the final design stages and awaiting permits before procurement begins. The same speaker said Eastchester Gardens is "going along smoothly" but that a parks department representative, Catherine, would provide fuller updates at the committee's October meeting, scheduled for Oct. 9.
Committee members also raised an administrative concern about missing minutes on the board website and urged that someone be assigned at the start of each meeting to take minutes. One committee member volunteered to take minutes next month.
Late in the meeting, a motion was made and seconded to elect Janice Walcott as chair of the Parks Committee. The motion was seconded and the committee approved the nomination by voice; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript. The committee discussed that, as chair, Walcott would be able to appoint a co-chair.
The meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
