City staff, Maine Discovery Museum advance feasibility study for proposed science center

City staff said they have worked with the Maine Discovery Museum and congressional staff to secure an outlay of federal funds for a feasibility study for a proposed science center, noting Maine currently lacks a science museum.
"This was a project. Again, this was just started a couple of years ago, working with, the main discovery museum. They, with the city, worked with, the congressional, staff to do, a congressional outlay of of funds for, to do a feasibility study for a science museum," a staff member said. Staff reported a recent conference with museum staff in California yielded ideas for the project and that a request for proposals will follow as the study advances. Staff said public involvement will be an important part of the site and program evaluation.
No formal committee action was recorded; staff said they would keep the committee apprised as the feasibility work becomes more active.
