Middletown Area SD honors Jennifer Fredericks as 2025 Teacher of the Year

The Middletown Area School District Board of School Directors recognized Jennifer Fredericks as the district's 2025 Teacher of the Year.

An administrator introduced Fredericks and praised her 27 years of service and classroom leadership, noting frequent student engagement during lessons and her work as a color guard advisor and with the marching band. The recognition is presented through Shippensburg University student council and is a longstanding district tradition, an administrator said.

Fredericks, who addressed the board, said she was honored that her peers selected her. “I always come to school every day just to do my job. I never look for anything more or or less. I do everything no matter what,” she said, and added she had begun at Middletown as a student teacher and chose to stay in the district. She thanked staff, principals and the community for their support.

Superintendent report: In his superintendent report read by an administrator in the superintendent’s absence, Dr. Wertz again congratulated Fredericks and noted the award is presented through Shippensburg University student council; he said the district is proud to celebrate her accomplishments.

Practical details: Presenters noted Fredericks’s classroom practice and extracurricular contributions but did not attach a monetary award or program change to the recognition at the meeting.
