Board questions Fine Fare relocation at 2560 Boston Road after on‑site materials observed

Members of Bronx Community Board 11 discussed the proposed relocation of a Fine Fare supermarket to 2560 Boston Road during the Sept. 18 committee meeting after members observed pallets of building materials and what appeared to be a business selling bricks at the site.
“We need to figure out what's happening because they presented to the board with the whole schematics about affordable housing and this Fine Fare being moved,” Rich Reynoso, co‑chair of the committee, said.
Committee members noted the site had been presented earlier with plans for affordable housing and a supermarket near the Popeye’s on Boston Road. Several members said recent visits show materials staged on site and possibly temporary commercial activity, not visible active construction of the approved project.
“Typically before construction starts, they have to order all of the construction material and they stage it on the site,” Reynoso said. He and others described staging as a common early step where contractors store pallets of brick, windows and roofing materials on site so work can proceed once foundations are poured.
Board members agreed to take photographs of the site and to follow up with the Department of Buildings and other relevant city agencies to confirm whether construction is underway, whether the project still matches the plans presented to the board, and whether any changes to affordability (AMI) or use have been proposed. No changes to AMI levels or specific affordability commitments were reported at the meeting.
The committee did not take formal action beyond directing staff to gather documentation and to request agency confirmation at a future meeting.
