The Cheektowaga Zoning Board of Appeals on Sept. 17 approved variances that allow the driveway at 25 Hillwood Drive to be expanded by approximately 3.1 feet in front of the principal dwelling; the revised driveway would be 4.2 feet from the property line where the zoning code requires a minimum 5-foot side setback.
Applicant Heather Bateman said the change would take the driveway from about 14.9 feet to 18 feet so the family can fit three cars ("3 cars deep, 2 cars wide") during winter when on-street parking is limited. Bateman said the work would not change the apron or eliminate street parking; instead, the expansion uses blocks on the side of the house to extend the paved area.
Board members confirmed the proposed new edge would stop at the sidewalk and that no work was planned on the apron. After public questions and a brief discussion, a motion to grant the variances was made and seconded by Mister Kenny Young. The board recorded ayes from Miss Warchak, Mister Kenny Young and Miss Ault; the motion passed.
The transcript does not show additional conditions attached to the approval.
