Board allows reduced driveway expansion at 89 Danielle Drive with tapering condition

The Cheektowaga Zoning Board of Appeals on Sept. 17 granted a variance to allow an expanded driveway at 89 Danielle Drive, with a condition that the permitted width be set at 8 feet from the existing driveway rather than 9 feet requested and that the paving taper to the existing apron rather than to the curb.
The applicant (identified in the transcript as the person seeking the change at 89 Danielle Drive) told the board the work was already mostly complete and described the project as "We extend 1 more parking. We have only 1 way parking lot right now, and we have 3 car at home. It's problem, because on the snow time," explaining the need for additional parking space.
Board members questioned whether the widened surface would extend past the sidewalk and how it would tie into the apron. The board discussed tapering the new paving so it would end at the sidewalk/apron and not obstruct the street or create a new area for on-street parking. The board noted concrete was already present in front of the door and that the requested expansion essentially formalized existing gravel and concrete.
A motion was made to grant the variance with the condition that the expansion be 8 feet from the existing driveway and tapered into the apron; that motion was seconded by Miss Wertschock. On the recorded vote the three members who voted in person (Miss Wertschock, Mister Kenny Young and Miss Ault) voted yes. Trustee Miranda, attending by teleconference, had been earlier noted as unable to vote.
The board recorded the condition in the motion and approved the variance with that condition.
