Town officials reported that Island Presbyterian Church has agreed to sponsor bridge purchases for a new trail that will link Sandywood Circle on Hughes Road to Veterans Park and has wired funds for the purchase, a town official said during the Sept. 16 meeting.
Why it matters: The donation — described by a town official as a cash-and-in-kind contribution in excess of $80,000 — funds a physical connection between a new subdivision and a town park. The church also committed up to $10,000 toward trail amenities such as two benches and two picnic tables.
Councilman Jose Garcia told the board the church voted to sponsor the bridge purchases and that vendors had been paid and would ship the materials. He said the full donation value “is in excess of $80,000” and that the church also pledged up to $10,000 for trail furnishings. The board was told the next meeting will include paperwork to accept the donation.
Town members previously approved moving town funds to establish right-of-way and to pay fencing costs that enable the trail connection. The board will return to the matter at a future meeting with formal paperwork to accept the donation and record any conditions attached to it.
What’s next: The paperwork to accept the donation will appear on the next board meeting agenda; staff will provide required documentation to accommodate the donated materials and the pledged funds for trail furnishings.
