Library says auditorium upgrades nearly ready; staff cite space constraints and outreach plans for 'up north' residents

The City and County library director told council the auditorium’s sound and lighting upgrades are not yet complete but staff plan an open house once work finishes and expect renewed rental activity.
“We haven't reopened, but we're gonna have an open house when we do because we have many renters who are eager, to see the upgrade so that they can be planning their productions differently,” the library director said. Staff said the lighting improvements will expand creative options and that some sound improvements may be less audible to nontechnical listeners but will benefit performers and renters.
Council members pressed the library on space constraints and service to residents in newer neighborhoods. Staff said added part‑time and benefited positions in 2025 have begun reducing wait lists and allowing duplicate program sessions, but that high demand continues. To serve residents in more remote growth areas, the library is exploring pickup lockers and partnership locations such as the planned Buzz coffee/restaurant in the Baseline area where holds could be collected.
The director outlined a recently completed cultural history project, Broomfield Out Loud, which collected oral histories and partnered with local artists; the program won an award from History Colorado. Staff also asked the council to note the department’s mix of full‑time, part‑time and substitute roles is driven by facility hours and programming needs.
No budget motions were requested at the session; council members asked for continued updates on reopening dates, program metrics and plans to expand pickup or satellite services.
