Council members discussed several possible dates and formats for the event, noting changes in nearby communities’ event calendars had freed up a late‑July slot. “For the 225 years celebration, we’re looking into doing an event where the town will be in charge…maybe the Lions Club,” one organizer said. Staff and volunteer leaders considered whether to hold events on a single day or spread them over a holiday weekend and agreed the town needed a volunteer committee to develop logistics, fundraising and vendor coordination.
Members emphasized safety and fire‑department oversight for any fireworks. “The fire department is very thorough with what they do, and they’ll decide if it’s a go or no go. They will make sure the perimeter is just fine. And then they’ll make the ultimate decision if the fireworks will fly,” one council member said.
Council members asked staff to begin recruiting volunteers for an organizing committee and to return with a recommended date and basic event plan at a future meeting. The council did not set a final date or authorize event spending at this meeting.
