Osceola delegation secures $7.3 million in state funding for hydrilla removal and Cross Prairie Parkway connector

Senator Kristen Arrington presented the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners with state legislative appropriations totaling $7,300,000 that the delegation obtained for county projects during this year's extended legislative session.
Arrington told the board the funding includes $1,300,000 for hydrilla and aquatic vegetation reduction at the county's lakefront (identified in the presentation as North Lake "Tahoe"), a continuation of efforts supported in prior years, and $6,000,000 to construct the missing link of Cross Prairie Parkway. Arrington said the Cross Prairie Parkway connector will be approximately 1.5 miles long from Nolte Road and will connect planned development in East Lake to the city of Kissimmee, improving public safety and reducing congestion. She said the county estimates about 25,000 motorists will use that roadway on an average daily basis by 2030.
Arrington thanked county staff (including Mike Nicola and Mark Delagal) and the rest of the delegation and noted the funding survived a prolonged legislative session and subsequent gubernatorial veto considerations.
The board thanked Arrington and Representative Paula Stark (who was unable to attend) and called the delegation to the dais for photographs.
Why it matters: The funds provide state support for a water-quality/aquatic vegetation project and for a transportation connection expected to relieve congestion and provide a new travel corridor in eastern Osceola County.
