Recreation advisory committee reports strong summer programs, bike-path feasibility and senior engagement plans

The Recreation Advisory Committee told the Rawlins City Council it regrouped this year, ran successful summer camps and an Arbor Day 5K, and is pursuing surveys, coaching manuals, youth racquet sports and a stalled mountain-bike trail tied to outside funding.
A representative from the Rawlins Recreation Advisory Committee briefed the council on Sept. 16, saying the committee has refocused after staff and volunteer changes and reported several successful summer programs.
The committee said the Arbor Day 5K drew more than 50 participants and that concessions and summer camps performed better than expected. Committee members reported progress on rodent management at the cemetery and discussed a proposed mountain-bike trail that is currently stalled because private partners and grant (GRAMA/other) funding need to be aligned.
The committee proposed post-program parent surveys to improve camps and recommended producing coaching manuals for volunteer parent coaches to standardize instruction across age groups. Members also said they are exploring youth racquetball and pickleball leagues, and discussed partnering with the senior center to offer scheduled walking groups with city bus support.
