Board hears 10-year capital update; approves multiple HVAC replacements and other facility projects

Kuna Joint District project staff on Tuesday told trustees they have completed the first phase of a multi-year facilities program funded through state house-bill monies and other grants, and outlined major planned work for next summer.
Brian Grace and project staff summarized work finished this year, including voice evacuation fire alarm upgrades, phase 1 HVAC replacements at multiple elementary campuses, gym floor refinishing at the high school, perimeter fencing at elementary sites, parking-lot repairs, and asbestos abatement tied to boiler removal at one site. Contractors reported operational voice-fire systems installed at Indian Creek and Ross elementary schools and HVAC classroom work finished in multiple buildings.
The board approved several procurement items to address aging rooftop and HVAC units that can be replaced without extensive engineering. Motions approved included contract awards (recommended vendors and bid amounts) for rooftop/HVAC replacements at the district office, Reed Elementary, Crimson Point Elementary and Kuna Middle School. The board also approved smaller operational contracts and directed staff to continue planning larger second-phase projects at Kuna High School (a substantial phase 2 HVAC scope, gym foyer vestibules and related work) and additional roof and equipment replacements in later years.
Project staff said the Kuna High School phase 2 work will be large enough to affect summer scheduling on that campus and that bids for second-phase work at Ross and Indian Creek are expected to be combined and advertised this fall. Trustees asked about change-order exposure and emphasized a clear bid scope to avoid later cost surprises.
The board voted unanimously to approve the HVAC and rooftop replacement contracts presented at the meeting.
