Dawsonville — The Dawsonville City Council recorded several formal actions during its Sept. 22 regular meeting, approving an appointment to the planning commission, accepting a donation for local law enforcement, authorizing a downtown door‑installation project, and approving a temporary road closure and fee waiver for the Care for Kids festival. The council also voted to table an award decision for a new IT managed services contract until its Oct. 20 meeting.
Planning commission appointment: The council appointed Jack Eaton to Planning Commission Post 2. The appointment was moved and seconded during the consent/appointments portion of the meeting and approved by council vote.
Donation to Georgia State Patrol: The council approved a $2,078 donation and the presentation referenced that amount as a thank‑you to Georgia State Patrol Post 37 for public safety service to the community.
Door installation between downtown attractions: The council approved a plan to add internal doorways connecting the Dawsonville History Museum (Georgia Racing Hall of Fame) and the Station House restaurant to an alleyway. Cindy Elliott of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame described two proposed openings and said none involve load‑bearing walls. The council agreed the Station House may proceed while the neighboring private property owner (Granddaddy Mims) completes any board and insurance approvals. The motion to approve the connectivity plan was made by Councilmember Mark French and seconded by Councilmember Phillips and carried on vote.
Care for Kids road closure and fee waiver: The council approved a temporary road closure for the Care for Kids festival from 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, through 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, and granted a $275 total fee waiver. During the motion council members amended the closure to include the portion of Main Street now called Main Street North; the amendment was seconded and the amended motion passed.
IT managed services RFP: City staff reported that a committee reviewed 38 proposals and interviewed three finalists, recommending Anderson Computer and Network Services (ACNS) based on capabilities and government experience. Council discussion included a comparison to a downtown vendor, Cyclone Computers; staff noted Cyclone quoted a $2,400 onboarding fee but a lower monthly recurring cost, while ACNS proposed no onboarding charge but a higher monthly recurring cost. After discussion Councilmember Ils moved and Councilmember Phillips seconded a motion to table the award to the Oct. 20 meeting for additional review; the motion to table passed.
Other routine items: The council approved the consent agenda, including minutes from the Sept. 8 meeting and attendance at a Georgia Downtown Association conference. The staff also recognized employees and accepted routine monthly reports.
