Board approves personnel report after separate vote; pay alignment for area chief noted

The Cedar Rapids Community School District Board of Education removed the personnel report from the consent agenda and held a separate vote at its Sept. 22 meeting. Director Tominski moved to approve the personnel report; a second was recorded and the board conducted a roll-call vote.
The personnel report item discussed at the meeting included a pay adjustment for Ryals Parker limited to bringing his pay in line with the other two area chiefs, a change the board was told had been approved through the district's certified budget this spring. Director Humboldt (who had requested the personnel item be pulled) urged the board to create a written policy or procedure defining hiring practices during organizational restructuring, saying the district currently lacks such guidance and that a policy would promote transparency and stakeholder inclusion.
The roll-call vote on the personnel report recorded the following: Director Kaminski, Aye; Director Borcherding, No; Director Humboldt, Nay; Director Byers, Aye; Director Newman, Aye; President Garlock, Aye. The motion passed.
