Fire Chief Campbell told the Delhi Township Board of Trustees on Sept. 24 that the fire department had accepted a voluntary resignation and had progressed on two grant efforts to support firefighter health and wellness.
Trustees approved a motion to accept the voluntary resignation of part-time firefighter/EMT Michael J. Borger, effective Sept. 24. Chief Campbell said Borger had served about a year and a half and had accepted conditional offers for full-time positions elsewhere.
Campbell said the department applied to the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation for a $15,000 grant to purchase three gear dryers to improve turnout-gear cleaning and drying and reduce mildew and exposure risks. He said the department learned that it had been awarded a health-and-wellness grant through the federal Assistance to Firefighters Program for $25,000; the township's matching portion would be about $2,200. The award will fund peer fitness-counselor training and associated equipment, Campbell said, allowing the department to internalize some health-and-wellness services previously contracted to TriHealth.
Campbell also described mental-health resources for first responders, including a protocol at Good Samaritan Hospital known as "Room 16" that provides discreet, confidential access to evaluation and treatment for crisis events. He said the department plans to work with regional peer-support partners to expand access for firefighters and law-enforcement staff.
Trustees thanked the chief for the report; no further board action was requested other than accepting the resignation.
