Shelton student board representatives outline fall activities and new schedules

The board welcomed three student representatives who presented brief reports on early fall activities at their schools.
Alan Ramirez, a returning representative from Cedar High School, said senior students were organizing events and fundraisers and had run an ambassador-led orientation for new students. “We also had a quite a few seniors working as ambassadors to help our orientations,” Ramirez said, describing efforts to establish norms and pair older students with incoming students.
Nevaeh Betsch reported for Shelton High School that leadership teams held a back-to-school assembly and attended a leadership camp on Mount Baker. She described a new phone policy and related skits the leadership team used in assemblies to present rules. “The ones that are like adapting to this the easiest are probably our freshmen,” Betsch said, and she said the policy had not generated overt opposition.
Abigail Olivas reported for Choice. She described new scheduling options for middle and high school grades and said Choice staff had created a ‘Vibe Room’ — a common area with games and seating intended to bring students from Cedar and Choice together. Olivas summarized scheduling details for grades 7–12 and said staff were helping students arrange morning and afternoon schedules that may include courses at other high schools, New Market, Running Start or online options.
Board members thanked the student representatives for their reports and encouraged continued participation.
