East Grand Rapids — The City Commission approved revisions to the Department of Public Works’ snow-and-ice maintenance guidelines at the Sept. 8 meeting.
City staff presented a revised policy that clarifies the city’s operational procedures for sidewalk and street clearing, the role of contractors, and recommended actions for residents and property owners. Commissioners requested a small wording change to prefer the term “property owner” where the draft had used “residents,” and asked staff to explicitly encourage owners to clear remaining snowpack after city crews have completed mechanical clearing operations.
The action was approved by vote without recorded opposition. City staff said the revised guidance will be posted on the city website and incorporated into routine winter operations.
