Parent proposes ski and snowboard club for Copeland; district to review proposal

“I currently have a seventh grader…and I am requesting the proposal for a ski and snowboard club for sixth through eighth grade,” Sapio said. She told the board she circulated a short survey via social media and had “over 57 students already interested,” with a grade breakdown of about 20 sixth-grade, 19 seventh-grade and 18 eighth-grade students in her sample.
Sapio proposed Mountain Creek as the most local partner and described a five-trip model in which lessons would be included with a lift-ticket purchase and students who already hold season passes would pay only for bus transportation. She added that chaperones/advisors receive benefits under the mountain’s school arrangements and that fees are due through Oct. 31 under the vendor’s timeline.
Superintendent Corbett and a district staff member asked Sapio to email the packet to the district. A staff member (referred to as Mr. Baier/Beyer in the transcript) said receiving the materials by email would “begin the conversation.” The transcript records no formal vote or adoption; the board agreed to consider the proposal and requested staff follow-up.
Sapio’s packet — distributed to board members at the meeting and later by email per the district’s exchange — included a proposed vendor contact, trip frequency (five trips), grade-level participation numbers, and a note that about 31% of surveyed students had never skied or snowboarded and would need rentals or instruction.
