Parent says Birchwood drop-off changes cause long lines, lateness for siblings

At public comment during the Sept. 2 Rockaway Township Board of Education meeting, April Bridal of Hawthorne Court described the new pre-K drop-off pattern at Birchwood and asked the district to revisit the procedure.
“Now we're doing it more of a drop off situation. However, it was 20 some odd minutes of sitting in traffic,” Bridal said. She told the board the line extended “all the way out to the street, all the way around the school” and that the congestion made her older child late to school. “If I were a single parent, this would be completely untenable,” she said.
Superintendent Corbett thanked Bridal for raising the issue and said, “I'll be going to Birchwood tomorrow. I want to take a look more closely at the situation.” That response was recorded on the meeting audio and noted by the board president.
The board did not take additional action during the meeting. The superintendent's stated visit represents an operational follow-up rather than a formal board directive recorded as a motion.
